Summary:
Britt Anderson went along with everything the doctors said for nearly four years, but she was still dying at eighteen. The cancer had won leaving her without a future, without any options, and without control. No control, except for how she would leave this world. As Britt tries to end her life by going into the frigid waters she realizes her mistake. She struggles to get back to shore, to cry out for help, but her atrophied muscles are useless and the frigid water steals the breath from her chemo-scarred lungs. Despite her father’s attempts to reach her, she flies over the waterfall.
When Allister Parks finds Britt’s fragile body on the riverbank something calls out to him. Ignoring the warnings of his sister, Allister brings Britt back from the edge of death. The only problem is that an Eternal like Allister isn’t allowed to touch those who have already passed from this world. It is forbidden; an infraction punishable by death.
As Britt relishes her new cancer-free life and senior year of high school, her very existence threatens Allister’s place in this world. Allister struggles to keep Britt a secret from the Eternal Council and out of the hands of the only Eternal who already knows the truth: the one who stole her guardian angel.

Hello everybody! Welcome to my blog tour for Taking Angels by C.S. Yelle. As always, be sure to click the tour banner up there to check out all the other tour stops!!

Taking Angels was such an engaging and fun read. Our main character, Britt, has been diagnosed with cancer and knows that she isn't going to last much longer. During a family trip, quite possible her last, Britt decides that if she's going to die, it's going to be her call, not cancer's. So, she decides to drown herself, convenient that the family trip is at an island completely surrounded by water. But instead of succeeding, Britt finds herself alive and 110% cancer free. Before she woke up, Britt remembers being surrounded by two figures glowing, angels perhaps? And guess what, they look a whole lot like Allister and Angelina Parks, the new kids in town. In addition to that, Britt starts seeing murders in her dreams and wakes up to find out that they are real. Say what?? She soon finds out that the murderer in her dreams is Kendall, a corrupted Eternal who attempted to steal her guardian angel/soul but failed and now they are irrevocably linked together. Talk about intense.

There was so much mystery surrounding Britt, you couldn't help but get drawn towards her. From the start, she evokes emotion by reaching out to the reader's feelings as she struggles through life weighed down by cancer. Then, when she is healed, her life starts to spiral out of control and we as the reader get pulled along for the ride. There are still so many unanswered questions regarding Britt. Why is everyone attracted to her? Kendall and Allister I get, but Gabe? Speaking of Allister, I have to admit that I am a bit tired in general of insta-attraction between a hero and a damsel in distress. This isn't aimed at the book, just in general, but that is what happens. I do admit that I like the spark between Allister and Britt, but I felt like there was so much going on that their relationship didn't grow as much as I would have liked. Hopefully with the second book, we can see their relationship grow.

Now let's talk about Britt's three amigos. Can I please get me a package? They are probably the most supportive friends I've ever read about. They take everything within their stride and show that no matter what their girlfriend is going through, no matter how crazy and out of the world it sounds, they are willing to stand by her. I loved how they reacted to Britt and the Eternals, how they protected her even though against the Eternals, they were powerless. The love that they have for Britt is just amazing, I can't stress that enough.

The ending was a cliffhanger but not really. I liked the conclusion to the overall problem that was hanging over our heads the entire story, but at the same time, it wasn't completely solved. Bastion, the bad guy, was still on the loose and the ending threatened the three amigos. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? All I know is I need the second book right now because those beautiful girls are in danger and we cannot have that.

I highly recommend Taking Angels, it's definitely a super fun read and I promise you'll get super invested into the characters because they are just so awesome! Also, would it be too much to ask for some more Gabe in the next book? :)
