Music Monday: 微微一笑很倾城

 :

Hello everyone! I have a new song to share with you all today. Since I already run a Thursday Tracks feature on the blog which combines a song and a book, I thought I'd start a Monday version in case I have a song to share but don't have a book in mind that comes with it. I also currently don't want to study for my final tomorrow so posting something would be a nice break.

1002729This song is from the OST soundtrack of a Chinese drama called Love O2O which I started watching. I've been debating on whether I want to post a review on the drama once I finished. I started watching over the weekend since classes were over and I confess I'm already on episode 8 as I write this.

Anyway, back to the song - after starting the drama, I looked up the OST soundtrack and have been listening to it non stop while I study for finals. This sound really stood and I just thought it sounded so adorable so here I am sharing it with you guys.

That's all I really have to say for this post, let me know your thoughts on the song. Have you watched this drama or listened to the OST? If yes, what did you think? Let me know in the comments!

Music Monday: Something You Need

Hey everyone! I haven't done a Music Monday in FOREVER and I thought I'd bring it back. I don't know what I'm really going to do in these videos yet so if you guys have any suggestions let me know.

So this week's song is Something You Need by Against the Current which is one of my favorite bands ever! The video above is a quick audio video that I made by editing a picture I pulled off of Tumblr.

It's just so catchy and I have literally been playing this non-stop ever since I heard it. Against the Current recently released the lyric video for this song which you can find here. They also released the music video for their song "Another You (Another Way)" which is also another one of my favorites. You guys can go watch and listen to it here. Definitely go check them out and give them so love because they are seriously awesome!

I think that's all I have to say for this post...ack so awkward, but I'm definitely going to work on bringing this back and making it more fun and interesting. Quick question, I recently found a long music questions list on Tumblr and I think I can pick a song for each question to feature for a Music Monday. Let me know in the comments below if you'd be interested in that! Thanks so much for reading and I hope you guys enjoy the song!!

Rixton Concert

Our school’s Do Something club entered a contest at Z100, a radio station in New York, and they won. The prize: a private Rixton concert. I was so excited about Rixton coming, even though I didn’t know who they were at the time. They’re famous, okay? Give me a break….. So I started listening to their songs and really liked them! They came on Friday, May 30.

That morning, during gym, I saw the crew setting up the stage for them. When Riv and Jenn had gym in the afternoon they actually saw Rixton come in. I got so jealous when Jenn told me,  lol.

So doors opened at 3:30 and the show started at 4. Riv and I got there (more like I dragged here there) around 3:15, give or take a few minutes. When the doors opened I pulled Riv through the crowd and to the stage. Somehow we got separated and I lost her in the crowd (sorry Riv, do you still love me?). I somehow managed to push my way from the back to second row (amazing, I know!) Everyone was pushing and the teachers were all yelling at yes to not push. I had to stand on my toes the entire time since I’m short…. I managed to record most of the concert with a lot of technical difficulties.

They sang We All Want the Same Thing, My Love (cover), Beautiful Excuses, Hold On We’re Going Home (cover), Ignition (cover), AppreciatedSpeakerphone, Make out, and Me and My Broken Heart. Beautiful Excuses, Appreciated, and Speakerphone were my favorite. I wish they sang Hotel Ceiling though; it’s one of my favorite songs by them.

Overall, it was a very high energy concert, especially since Jake (lead vocalist) was jumping around the stage the entire time. They even brought up 2 people from the crowd to join them on stage (lucky ducks). One of them was my math teacher since she was chaperoning! (Go Eisen!! Please give me an A) They were wearing T-shirts that said “Lancers” on it that our school gave them. Danny posed a picture of the shirt (x) and the band took a selfie with all of us in it (x). Charley posted a picture of the crowd on twitter (x) and Jake posted a picture (x) and a video (x) on instagram.

At the end of the concert, they threw stuff into the crowd: Jake’s towel, their guitar picks, and Lewi’s drum stick. Guess which one I got? Jake’s guitar pick!! (x)

After concert experience:

After the concert, my friends and I were waiting outside the gym, hoping they would come down. They promised to play football (soccer) later, so we were waiting for them. Then the security guard kicked everyone out of the building, so we waited outside. We waited about 20-30 minutes before my friends left. Some girls said Rixton was coming out of a side door and their car was waiting for them there. I ran there and saw a group waiting by the door and waited with them. Then one of the crew members came out to get something and told us the boys were playing on the football field. We didn’t believe him since we thought it was a trick to lure us away from the boys. Then a girl’s friend texted her saying the boys were playing on the turf so the entire group (including me) sprinted to the turf. Rixton was on the turf playing soccer with their crew and some girls were already there. Later, my math teacher came down and said to another teacher, “darn it, it didn’t work. We couldn’t keep them at the door.”

I approached Charley (lead guitar) first. I said hi and he gave me a hug without me asking. He is so good at hugging, omg. He wrapped both of his arms around me and hugged me very tightly. AND HE SMELLED SO GOOD! I can’t get over it, his cologne… I can’t describe it because I’m really bad at describing smells. It smelled ….kinda sharp and distinct…. Uhhh that’s the best I can do… sorry :/ It felt so good to hug him, I felt so protected and loved. His girlfriend is so lucky to have him…. Where can I get a Charley?? He was like, Hi, how are you? And when I asked for a picture was like yeah.

Then I got a picture with Lewi. The first picture was dark since we had our backs to the sun. He grabbed my arm and steered me to good lighting. He was like, wait, turn this way, and we took another picture. I had to wait a bit to get a picture with Danny and Jake since they were playing with their friends. But I got them!!! Jake’s was a normal, like I said, Hi, can I get a picture? And he was like sure. *camera noise* When I took a picture with Danny, he put his arm around my waist! ^_^ The others just crouched down a bit to get into the shot, lol. I left, then went back and asked Danny for a hug. His hug was a lot like Charley’s but I forgot to breathe, so I don’t know what he smells like L. They were nice to hug :D.

They were all super nice and courteous. They didn’t have a problem with taking picture with fans while they were trying to play soccer. When they play soccer, they seem like professionals. The way the approach, pass, and kick the ball looked like they had some training. They missed the goal…. Quite a few times…. A girl asked Charley if he would consider football as a profession if he wasn’t singing and he said he might. He was like, “I’d like to think I’m good enough. We’re British, so we’re raised to play soccer, just like Americans play football.”

They’re accents were peeeerrfffeecccttttt. I could listen to them talk all day!! Charley followed me on twitter and I completely freaked out when I saw that.

Rixton's coming back during the summer for a tour. Tickets go on presale June 3rd at 10 am and general sale June 7th, at 10 am. For more information go here (x)

Music Monday: She Looks So Perfect by 5 Seconds of Summer

Hey, we haven't done a Music Monday in a while, so here it is!
I've been obsessing over this song for over a week and I couldn't wait to share it with you guys. This is She Looks So Perfect by 5 Seconds of Summer. If you recall, I did a Music Monday on their other song, Wherever You Are.
When I first heard it I was like, are they ever going to say anything but "hey"? But then Luke's perfect voice came in and I haven't stopped listening to this song since then.
One of my favorite parts is:
They say we're too young now to amount to anything else
but look around, we worked too damn hard to give it up now
I know this song is about a girl, but to me, these lines are about their careers. Am I crazy or what? Luke's only 17, Calum and Michael are 18, and Ashton is 19. All four of them are really young and they've had so much success already. They definitely worked hard to get their album ready for their fans (we're still waiting....). They started by doing covers on Youtube and had the chance to tour with One Direction! I can't wait for their tour, please come to America!!
Or we can relate this back to a girl... I guess... People say that we're too young right now to understand what love is and that relationships in high school aren't serious. Well, most of them aren't... but some of them are!
Another part I like is:
If I showed up with a plane ticket
and a shiny diamond ring with your name on it
would you wanna run away too? cuz all I really want is you
Yes, Calum!! Do you really need to ask? Even if you didn't have a plane ticket or a diamond ring, I'd still run away with you!! I just think this part is really cute...

Well, I hope you guys enjoyed my Music Monday, sorry it was a short one. I procrastinated too much this long weekend and now I'm rushing to finish my homework. Leave a comment below if you have any thoughts on this song.

Music Monday: Santa Baby

If you can't see, click here.

Hey guys, this is going to be a really quick Music Monday. Christmas is almost here and it'd be the end of the world (at least to me) if we didn't have a Music Monday dedicated to something Christmas-y. So here's Megan Nicole's rendition of Santa Baby. I remember when I first heard this song, I thought it was so funny how the singer was calling Santa "baby", but then I was little and thought the word baby was a 'weird' name guys called their girlfriends. Ah, young me. So hope you guys enjoy it!

Okay, I lied, I'm not ending with just one song. Here's Kurt Schneider's mash-up of Let it Snow and Baby's It's Cold Outside featuring Alex G and Robby Word. Now, enjoy to your heart's content!

Music Monday: Unconditionally

Unconditionally by Katy Perry
Or click here

Cover by Jason Chen and Megan Nicole
Or click here

This song has been on replay ever since Jason and Megan came out with their cover last Wednesday. I loved their harmony and the connection they made to their collab on Just Give Me A Reason by P!nk a couple months ago. It's a good ending to that little love story. Then I got the guts to listen to the original and it turned out to be really good too! No offense to singers, but a lot of times if I hear a cover by a YouTuber I love and then search out the original, I don't like the original as much. This one proved me wrong! Loved both versions and the lyrics have officially been ingrained into my brain, and probably some parts of my history outline. Haha, now onto the lyric analysis!

So come just as you are to me
Don't need apologies
Know that you are all worthy
I'll take your bad days with your good
Walk through the storm I would
I do it all because I love you
I love you l love you

This is the second verse of the song. I just really love the lyrics in general. I think it emphasizes the whole idea of the whole song, loving someone unconditionally. I mean, if you really love someone, you'll stick through the bad and good for them and maybe even grow with them as they journey on.

So open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart and just let it begin
Open up your heart
Acceptance is the key to be
To be truly free
Will you do the same for me?

Bridge of the song. First of all, I just really like the melody/tempo to "Open up your heart and just let it begin." The words after that I think are just really well said. Acceptance is the key to be free. In any sort of relationship, romantic or not, you are choosing (I hope) to accept the other flaws and all. Like in the movie Princess and the Frog, accept them "warts and all." XD Lessons to be learned from Disney~

Music Monday: Midnight Memories

OMG MIDNIGHT MEMORIES GOT LEAKED A WEEK EARLY!!! How many of you are as excited as me???
So far (I'm listening to it for the first time right now), it's totally different from the first 2 albums.
I saw a post on tumblr that said "Rock Me came an album early and Best Song Ever came an album late"
That pretty much describes the album. It has a very rock and indie sound, no dance pop. IT'S AMAZING!!!
AAAHHH
I just have to say I'm so proud of the boys. As seen in their movie, This Is Us, they recorded while on tour and sometimes had to wake up in the middle of the night to record. This just goes to show how dedicated they are and how much they want to make beautiful music for their fans. Despite the fact that the first 2 albums got leaked early, directioners still got the album to #1 in multiple countries and I know we can do it again this time.

Music Monday: Towers and Little Me by Little Mix

Since I haven't done Music Monday in a while (I think?) I'm going to review 2 songs, both by Little Mix. Little Mix has recently released a new album, Salute, so go buy it if you can!

1. Towers
This was the first song I heard from their new album and I instantly fell in love it with. (I already knew their album was going to be great). So basically, this song is about a breakup and not letting a boy back into your heart. It sounds like a pretty bad break up and the guy sounds like a jerk since:
"You never brought me flowers
Never helped me in my darkest hours"
It's a medium tempo song, maybe a bit on the slow side. It's definitely a sad love song.

2. Little Me
This is a very inspirational song.

She lives in the shadow of a lonely girl,
Always so quiet you don't hear a word,
Always talking but she can't be heard,
You can see in her if you catch her eye,
I know she's brave but it's trapped inside,
Scared to talk but she don't know why

Wish I knew back then,
What I know now,
Wish I could somehow,
Go back in time and maybe listen to my own advice,
I'd tell her to speak up, tell her to shout out,
Talk a bit louder, be a bit prouder,
Tell her she's beautiful, wonderful,
Everything she doesn't see,
Little Me

So that's the first verse and chorus of the song. Now do you see what I mean by inspirational?
I think this is probably my favorite (or one of my favorite) song(s) on the album. Little Mix's fans are mostly teenage girls and this is an important message to pass onto them: "She's beautiful, wonderful, everything she doesn't see."

So that concludes my Music Monday for now. Just wait until One Direction's album comes out at the end of the month, you'll probably get a whole album review!
But for now, GO BUY LITTLE MIX'S ALBUM!!!

Music Monday: Fire

Hey guys! Long time no sing! Haven't done a Music Monday post in what seems like forever! So to update you all on my current music obsessions: Alyssa Reid, Autumn Hill, and Jason Chen have been played the most this past week.

Don't think I've ever done an Autumn Hill review so a bit about the duo. Their album Favorite Mistakes came out September 10th I believe and the songs are A-mazing! They're a group/duo from Canada whose voices will literally make you melt in your seat. Ask Claudz, I've fallen off my chair listening to their gorgeous voices.

Anyway, Fire was the first song I listened to by them and it is super catchy with a really nice musical melody to it.

First let's talk video, it is COOL! I mean Tareya is playing on a piano that is ON FIRE! I guess that's the whole point cause the song it called fire. Also, everything in the background is on fire. Fire itself is a destructive element that spreads and consumes pretty much everything in its way. The connection of its destruction to a failing relationship, I thought, was really clever and creative.

Now on to the lyrics. The verses itself aren't that special. To be honest, I got a bit confused, but I'm guessing the couple is on a roadtrip and along the way things start to fall apart. Conflicting opinions on where to go and what not.

The prechorus has got to be my favorite part of the entire song. It captures guilt, fear, and sadness all in one. The singing is also really cool. It sounds like it's sung in one breath which is pretty impressive. I tried and lost breath around mid third line.

I sat in the middle and you started paling
Your phone started ringing and I stopped my singing
And I started crying at what you've been hiding
Along the way

The chorus itself is very catchy and creative. My favorite line is:
You took our love and
You set it on fire

Which recaptures the idea of a lost love. Yeah, melts in adoration of song~

Music Monday: Letting Go

Hey guys! Lately, I've been on an Alyssa Reid music craze. I absolutely love her voice and her songs are so catchy! This is one of my definite favorites out of all that I've heard. It's super duper short, only a little more than a minute, but it's just so pretty! So, on top of my Sam Tsui music reviews, expect a lot from her too! Last thing, since it's so short, I'm gonna spoil it a bit and write a bit after each verse, sorry.

I can tell that he wants you
I can see in his eyesBut he's trying play his games on youAnd you don't see through his lies
Okay, so first off, how many of y'all have ever lied to get something you want. Come on, put those hands up. We've all done that. Now lying to get someone's attention is a big no no. It happens all the time, but it's really bad. So if this dude's playing his games and making up stuff, girl you better end it quick.

But I know he really needs youAnd I know you can tellCause he's with his boys right nowActing all bigSo you know he's putting you through hell

Another big thing when trying to get the attention of someone, you act like you're all up there. This especially hurts the other person if you guys are going through an argument and you're trying to show them that you're fine, even when you're not.

So tell him to goIf he's too good for youLet him knowIf he thinks he's too coolMove onCause it won't be longTil his game is doneThe crowd is gone

So if this guy or girl thinks he's all up there and some big-shot  leave him. He obviously thinks he's better (when we all know you're just as up there as he is) so leave. It's that simple. If everyone sees that you're gone, if he or she sees that you're gone, there are no more players in the game. Simple and game over.

I know you're thinking it's a quarter to tenAnd you wonder why you did it againRemember what you're fighting forAs you're walking out that door

To be honest, this verse gets me a bit confused. But I think she's saying be sure of what you want before you walk out that door. Not too sure, any ideas?

It took a minute but I'm starting to tellThat you're ever gonna figure it outI won't be the last to know
You took a chanceNow I'm letting go

This is where I'm really confused. Is she talking about letting go of the guy or letting go of the situation? Because the first couple of verses talk about letting go of a person you used to care about, but this section talks about letting go as if she was a bystander trying to influence the person. But now that I think of it, the song can go both ways. You took a chance could be talking to the guy or it could be someone else talking to the girl. Either way, the person's letting go~

So those are my thoughts on the song. What are yours? Also, the next few weeks will be a bit hectic so I'm sorry if I don't upload as much. I'll try, but they might be short posts. I'll make it up to you when everything settles down. Speaking of that time, a couple friends and I are thinking of writing like a second verse and bridge to the song. Ideas?

Music Monday: Make It Up

Hey guys, so for this week's Music Monday I'm reviewing Sam Tsui's song Make It Up. Remember when I said I was probably going to go through his new album? Well here's the second song! Let's get right to it!

Does it look like I've got everything under control?
I'm good at faking it

The ice is getting thin, but I'm the only one who knows
I'm good at making it up

So that's the first verse. At first, I was really confused about what he was singing up but then quickly it realized it was about just living life and making things up along the way.

I've got a little confession
I don't know what I'm doing

But if you want, you can play along
Maybe I'll wake to find that I went and blew it
But 'til I do, I'll keep going strong
I make it up as I go, oh oh oh
I make it up as I go, oh oh oh
Still haven't gotten it wrong

Continuing on the idea of making things up along the way. While I don't 100% agree with winging things all the time, it's good to have some practice in being creative and making it up. My favorite part about the chorus is "Maybe I'll wake to find that I went and blew it, but 'til I do I'll keep going strong," which centers around not being held down by your mistakes, learning from them, and going strong!

That's my review for the week! If you haven't checked out the first review in the album click here.

Music Monday: Move by Little Mix

LITTLE MIX'S NEW SINGLE!!!
It's so catchy, I was tapping my foot from the beginning of the song to the end.

So it's gonna be a really quick music monday....
basically..... JUST LISTEN BECAUSE LITTLE MIX CAN DO NO WRONG! OF COURSE THEIR SONGS ARE GOING TO BE AMAZING!!!

So... uh.... here are some lyrics I liked:

But there's just one problem
I'm a bit old school
When it comes to lovin'
I ain't chasing you

That is me basically. I'm so old school, there's no way I would ask a guy out. If I like a guy ( lol Riv) I am not going to go up to him and ask him out or anything. I just sit in the corner and wait for him to come to me... which never happens.... that might explain why I'm a single pringle

Well, that's it because I still have so much work to do....

Music Monday: Breathe

Hey guys, got one of my favorite songs that I've recently been listening to a lot this weekend for y'all today! This song is a bit more on the old side, I think if came out in 2001. Anyway, let's get into it!

Cause I don't want to waste another moment
In saying things we never meant to say

Other than the lyrics, I really liked the way the music sounded for this particular verse, it just really stood out to me. The lyrics themselves hold a really good meaning. Sometimes we waste a lot of time saying things that weren't intentional but ended up hurting the person we cared about. So it's a good reminder to not waste the precious time we have on this planet by hurting others!

So you end up watching chances fade
And wondering what is real

Same beat as the lyrics above. While Michelle is talking more about reconciling with someone you love, I think it also takes it to another level because if you've got a lot of options, sometimes you don't know which one to choose and end up just watching them fade away, which can lead to uncertainty of what was actually real.

And I, Take it just a little bit
I, hold my breath and count to ten

At times of frustration, the best things to do is breathe. Stop yourself before a test, a meeting, an important event, give yourselves a bit of time, breathe and count to ten!

If I just breathe in
Fill in the space between
I know everything is alright

Simply put: BREATHE PEOPLE!

Don't rush around life, every second is precious and you'll never get it back again. Sometimes it's good to just stop and breathe~~

Music Monday: Wherever You Are by 5 Seconds of Summer

Hey~ so my song for Music Monday this week is Wherever You Are by 5 Seconds of Summer, it was just recently released and I'm already in love with it!
FYI, 5SOS is an Aussie band that is touring with One Direction for part of their Take Me Home Tour this year.
I've listen to this song so many times already and I can't pick my favorite lines!! But I'll try:

For a while we pretended
That we never had to end it
But we knew we had to say goodbye
You were crying at the airport
When they finally closed the plane door
I could barely hold it inside

How cute is that? It's so sad though! :(

Torn in two, and I know I shouldn't tell you
But I just can't stop thinking of you
Wherever you are, wherever you are
Every night I almost call you just to say it always will be you
Wherever you are

Um... where can I get a boy that says that?? *dying of cuteness*

I can fly a thousand oceans
But there's nothing that compares to
What we had and so I'll walk alone
I wish I didn't have to be gone
Maybe you've already moved on
But the truth is that I don't want to know

*cries*

You can say we'll be together someday
Nothing lasts forever
Nothing stays the same
So why can't I stop feeling this way

Oh my god, someone save me, I'm drowning in my tears!

I know this isn't a lot, but it's Monday morning, I'm behind in Algebra homework, and I'm about to pass out, so give me a break okay?
Honestly, words can't express my feelings on this song. It's just so sweet and sad. It's going to be on replay for the next week... I've got my tissues ready! Love those Aussie boys~ <3

Music Monday: All I Have Is Love

Hey guys!! So I'm back with another super cheesy and cute love song. Yeah, I'm too big of a romantic, sorry!!  Okay, so let's get into the lyrics~

You waited so long
For a love that's gonna last forever
Baby just give a chance
Cause I know that we can stay together

Right, so I love this pre-chorus/hook cause it just really speaks out to those girls who are worried about being hurt. Even for those that aren't worried about being hurt but are dreaming inside of a guy who is going to be theirs forever. I mean, who doesn't dream about that? It really goes a long way for a guy to say that.

Wish I could give you all the finer things
Like designer bags and diamond rings
What I got for you is all you need
Girl loving you is all I have to give
All I have is love

So this is the chorus, well part of it. The last verse is repeated 3-4 times. Again, it just reinforces the idea that "I (the guy) am going to be here, we're going to work it out," and all that cuteness. The guy's like, I wish I could give you all that expensive pretty things, but I only have my love you, and that's all you need. Some girls might be like, "Oh no it's not, I want all that rich stuff," but if you really think about it, those materialistic things are nothing to compare with a guy who loves you with all his heart and would die for you right?

So that's my Music Monday post of the week! To be honest, this song is a little bit too over the top is cheesiness (did I spell that right?) but I think it's still a pretty good song to listen to when you're a bit down. What do you think?

Love y'all!!

Music Monday: Beautiful Life by Union J

Right, so here's my first Music Monday... not exactly sure what I'm supposed to write, but I'll just ramble on... you have been warned ;)

Union J is a boyband from the UK who finished 4th on The X Factor UK last year. I know what you're thinking.. "Great another boyband." Boybands are back!! ahah

Anyway~ so far they have two singles out (their first on was Carry You, make sure you check that out too!) So far, Union J's singles aren't they typical You're-hot-girl-let's-hook-up kind of songs. To me, this song is about coming out of your shell and realizing there's more to life, that it's a "Beautiful Life."
Here are some lines that stood out to me:

There’s lots of make-up on her face
To cover up an empty space
But there’s a lot behind those big blue eyes
She just don’t realize

I don't object to girls wearing makeup. Sometimes we have to hide a blemish here and there, or amplify our best features. What really gets me is when girls start drawing masks around their faces or put on so much gunk on their face, no one recognizes them anymore. So basically, stop obsessing over how your face looks, odds are, you're making it worse by putting on a whole shit load of makeup.

He got his fortune on the plate
But all that money won’t change fate
He’s got 6 zeroes but no one to share it with
No friends, no girl, no one in the world

It's literally, "Money can't buy happiness." Some people, like me, say "yes, money can buy happiness. It can buy me concert tickets, etc." Yes, it can, it can buy you a moment of happiness. But in the end, all that money doesn't even matter anymore. With all that money, do you know who your real friends are? Who really cares about you? If you were to suddenly lose all that money, who will stay by your side?

There are so many more lines I love and have deep meanings, but I'll stop boring you. Don't forget to check out their first single, Carry You!!

Leave a comment below on your thoughts about the song~
