“Then it is settled,” Felix declared. “Come hell or high water, when this is all over, at least one of us here will not make it out alive.”
When Bronwen Snow is pulled from her cottage in the middle of the night, she finds herself seeking the help of three mysterious boys who reside in an abandoned castle deep in the hillside. With only a hasty handwritten note and a vague sense of dread to guide her, Bronwen is forced to put her trust in the eccentric and willful Felix Cavara and his eternal curse – immortality.
Hello everyone! Today's my tour stop for Evanescent by Gabriella Lepore! As always, be sure to check out the tour banner above for links to all the tour stops!

I have heard so much hype about Gabrielle Lepore’s book from BookTube so I went into this one with pretty high hopes. I can’t exactly think of the right word to describe how I feel about this book, but I guess you can say I was a bit underwhelmed. The story follows Bronwen who is woken up in the middle of night by her grandmother and forced to run through the woods to seek protection from Felix Cavara. She is being chased by something called the Severan and let me tell you, I would not want to mess with that thing anyway.

In just a couple of pages, the story takes off and I have to admit it caught my attention pretty quickly. I definitely enjoyed the eerie tone the book adopts as we follow Bronwen through the woods to the castle where she will find sanctuary. Gabriella Lepore has an interesting way with words that induce the right about of fear and excitement to keep you constantly turning the pages.

As far as characters went, that’s where I ran into problems. I liked Bronwen well enough, but I couldn’t feel any connection with her. This may be a result of the book being pretty short and I just didn’t have enough time to connect with her, but I just felt detached. Moving on to Felix…he’s a walking jumble of contradictions. One minute I want to laugh out loud because he’s so funny and the next minute I want to smack him for being a dolt. The relationship between Bronwen and Felix is another thing that I struggled with. Personally, it was all too fast but I won’t lie and say the ending didn’t punch me in the gut. Their relationship went from barely tolerating each other to feeling this insane deep connection.

Evanescent has a fun combination of heart pounding action and fun banter scattered throughout the novel. I did enjoy it as a whole, but I would have liked it more if it was a bit longer and I had more opportunities to get to know the characters better. Before I end, I must circle back to the ending of this book, it was absolutely heartbreaking and definitely one of my favorites parts of the entire book so at least it all ended on a beautiful note.
